It all began when I was 16 in the year 2000. I watched a movie called "Mercy Mission:The Rescue of flight 771 with my best friend Alex (KC2IFH). We were fascinated how big a role radio communications played in helping a lost pilot find his way and save his life. Turned out to be a true story aIso!. I went straight the the library and read books about emergency communications, shortwave radio, and whatever I could find on the subject.
We learned about "Amateur Radio" and I scheduled my technician exam. Alex and I both received our technician licenses and we were hooked. It took me a while to upgrade to General class and Extra, but since I got my HF privileges, Amateur radio has been my most favorite hobby. It really is a disease! My first HF radio was an Icom 706MKIIG, a 80m dipole (which was generously given to me, brand new!,by Tommy Kr2I ) and my mom's backyard for antenna supports. What fun I had with 100w and a wire back in those days!
I have since moved to Rockaway, New Jersey. I upgraded my station to an AL-80b amplifier, complete with a Yaesu FTdx-101d.
Since then, I have made so many great friends, some whom I consider family.
If I worked you, I hope to again soon, if not, let's arrange a sked!
