The Association of Indiana Teachers of Japanese (AITJ) was established to promote K-16 Japanese language and culture education in the U.S. state of Indiana. The Association fulfills its mission by facilitating the exchange of resources, ideas and knowledge relevant to Japanese language and culture education among Indiana’s Japanese language educators. The association organizes and runs several events including the Japanese Olympiad of Indiana (JOI) and K-16 Japanese Pedagogy Workshops. AITJ holds its annual business meeting every fall at the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association (IFLTA) conference during which members elect officers, nominate Japanese Language teachers for the IFLTA Teacher's Award, and plan for events such as JOI and upcoming K-16 Japanese Pedagogy Workshops.
