I'm asking this because the two lines of code above will toggle airplane mode without knowing whether it is turning it on or off. But I need a way to make sure that airplane mode is indeed on/off through ADB.

However, this only work if the menu containing the airplane mode switch is the first menu option listed on the settings page, since "android.settings.AIRPLANE_MODE_SETTINGS" will only navigate to the menu where the setting is found. It will not perform any focussing on the setting itself, so the following command to hit enter will press the wrong setting.

And finally - the end goal here is simply to toggle airplane mode programatically on demand (ultimately the request will be triggered by a node.js process running in termux app). If there is a better way to achieve this without using adb that doesn't require root permissions, this would also work.

I suspect this is an incredibly niche requirement, but if anyone is interested in how to toggle airplane mode on a non-rooted android phone using adb commands, where the UI airplane mode toggle button is not the first item in the settings activity.... read below!

Depending on the device, I've found that using the above options either results in nodes being selected or focused. The output of the UI dump can be parsed, and in the DOM search for either "node[selected=true]" or "node[focused=true]" depending on which the device uses. I'm eventually checking to see when node.attr('text').toUpperCase.contains('PLANE MODE') to check when the airplane mode setting has been reached, and then finally executing:

Hey, I have this workflow for automatically setting airplane mode at nighttime if not already set. Before the update to Android 13, it has always worked fine. Now it ends without any error, but it doesn't actually set the airplane mode anymore. The data connection stays on. Why so? Maybe a permission issue? (I didn't change anything in the flow) My phone is a Samsung s21. Thanks in advance

EDIT: the problem was that, after upgrading to Android 13, I didn't set the default voice assistant to Automate. Apparently, this is needed in order to set the airplane mode... Is this really necessary? I mean, what if I will need to use a real voice assistant in the future, like Google or Bixby?

In emulator the airplane mode option doesn't works well. so, try pressing F8 function key to stop the internet access to the emulator and check your app in offline. The airplane mode is closely related the communication signal which has effect only in device but not in emulator. Anyhow when airplane mode is turned on, automatically the internet access should be stopped, which happening in device but not in emulator. Don't worry about that you have an alternative to stop net access by pressing F8.

I've looked all over and I haven't found a concrete answer to this question. I'm hoping to find a way to toggle airplane mode from ADB that doesn't involve the GUI in any way. I've found and used the method that calls up the menu and then using keyevents turns airplane mode on, but due to needing to account for possible changes in UI layout, this method is only a temporary solution.

Will toggle airplane mode. However does anyone know if there's a way to explicitly uncheck or check the box? The problem is I can't find a way to check the state before toggling. adb shell settings get global airplane_mode_on does not work for me, settings is not found.

adb -s ZY32234G3V shell "su -c 'input keyevent KEYCODE_WAKEUP;input keyevent KEYCODE_MOVE_HOME;settings put global airplane_mode_on 1;am broadcast -a android.intent.action.AIRPLANE_MODE --ez state true'"

Hi, I know previously Wi-fi set state block had some problem and now fixed. I am asking about another issue, where the help screen of the block said "This block may silently fail while airplane mode is active." May I ask whether it is an android problem and there is nothing we can do ultimately fix it?

If it matters, I have just switched to Samsung S21FE (Android 12) from an Android 8 Sony old phone. Wi-fi set state works in the Samsung when it is not in airplane mode, but it is my habit to switch to airplane mode by default when I am not using mobile data.

I have code in my application that detects if Wi-Fi is actively connected. That code triggers a RuntimeException if airplane mode is enabled. I would like to display a separate error message when in this mode anyway. How can I reliably detect if an Android device is in airplane mode?

In Oreo please do not use the airplane mode broadCastReceiver. it is an implicit intent. it has been removed. Here is the current exceptions list. its not currently on the list so should fail to receive data. Consider it dead.

Register broadcast receiver on application open no need to add code in manifest if you take an action only when your activity open like check airplane mode is on or off when you access the internet etc

With airplane mode enabled, your device will not use assisted GPS because it cannot communicate with the assisted GPS infrastructure. It will use the standalone mode. This is why people may suggest to acquire a GPS fix on the ground before you start your flight; it's easier for your device to acquire a fix with a data connection and preserve a state where you get location updates than it is to cold start in-flight.

No application can turn off airplane mode, only the system apps or rooted devices can do this. Apparently older android API could, older than android 4. however an application can turn on and off each of the radio devices that airplane modes does, I have not looked into turning off cellphone reception. If an app cannot be found on the play store I would like to know what your use case is. If it's just for saving battery wouldn't most people just turn the phone off or plug it into a charger at night?

I think that I put my phone in airplane mode when they told passengers to do that at the start of the flight. I also do not think that the ERROR web pages immediately appeared at that point, but I am not 100% sure of that now.

I agree with your first sentence. I have all bars on WIFi icon, I'm at home and cell data is turned off through airplane mode. As I said this has always worked until today. Tried different WIFI servers here and same error. Just tried to make a call on WIFI and get the same error.

@ComcastCaitlin After going into airplane mode I turn wifi back on. After that I can go to google chrome and browse the web and receive emails, that proves I have a wifi connection but can not send text.

I want to make a control panel sorta app. You can turn airplane mode, mobile data, wifi on off, creates a graph how many wifi usage or mobile data usage etc... However I don't see any extensions that can access mobile data/ wifi. Anyone have any suggestions?

Works on android below 10. It does not work when the application targets Api level 29 or higher. This has been blocked for security reasons. So that it is not possible for the app developer to change the connection type without user interaction.

Grab an Android phone, iPhone, iPad, or even a Windows PC, and you'll see an airplane mode toggle in their various shortcut menus. But what is airplane mode and what does it actually do? How can you use it to your advantage on your phone or PC?

Airplane mode, sometimes called aeroplane mode or flight mode, is a setting available on nearly all smartphones, laptops, and similar devices. When you activate airplane mode, it stops all signal transmission from your device. You'll see an airplane icon in your device's status bar when it's turned on.

The feature is known as airplane mode because most airlines prohibit the use of wireless devices on their planes, especially when taking off and landing. There's some debate on whether phones can actually interfere with the radio equipment in planes, but most think it's best to err on the side of caution.

Modern versions of iOS and Android feature convenience tweaks for airplane mode. On modern devices, if you turn on airplane mode while connected to a Bluetooth device, it won't drop the Bluetooth connection. You can still turn off Bluetooth manually, if you like.

GPS is a bit different. It doesn't transmit any radio waves; your phone's GPS functionality only receives signals from GPS satellites. Depending on your device, airplane mode may or may not turn off GPS.

If your phone doesn't have this shortcut for some reason, you can toggle airplane mode at Settings > Network & internet > Airplane mode. As with most Android menus, this may be slightly different depending on your device.

On Windows 10 and Windows 11, you can toggle airplane mode through the Action Center. Press Win + A to open it. Once it appears, look for the Airplane mode toggle at the bottom. Click this to enable airplane mode and cut off all network signals.

Yes, airplane mode definitely helps your device save battery life. The various radios in your phone take up a lot of power. They regularly push app notifications over Wi-Fi, communicate with Bluetooth devices and cell towers, and check your location.

That all drains a lot of power, so disabling them all at once is a great way to keep your phone alive for longer. Because your phone doesn't do as much work in airplane mode, it should also charge faster.

While it depends on your device, most modern phones allow you to use Wi-Fi even when in airplane mode. When you enable airplane mode, Wi-Fi will shut off, but you can enable it again manually. In some cases, Wi-Fi might not shut off when you turn on airplane mode in the first place.

After putting your Android device into airplane mode, swipe down from the top of the screen twice to open Quick Settings again, then tap Wi-Fi. Give it a few seconds, and you'll see Wi-Fi turn on and connect (if your phone allows this).

Many airlines now offer in-flight Wi-Fi, so you can enable Wi-Fi while in airplane mode to enjoy that if applicable. If you're not sure, you should check with an airline employee before you try connecting. Planes typically allow Wi-Fi only when above 10,000 feet, however, so take care to keep Wi-Fi turned off during takeoff and landing. e24fc04721
