If you want a versatile daily driver with active noise cancellation, smart touch controls, and a premium audio experience for commuting or workouts, choose AIRO Duo Touch Screen; if you need ultra-thin comfort specifically designed to lay flat against your pillow without pain while sleeping on your side, choose Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin.
• AIRO Duo Touch Screen: Its biggest strength is the integrated touchscreen case that offers full control over music, ANC modes, and camera functions without touching your phone; however, its larger profile and in-ear design make it less ideal for deep side sleeping compared to specialized sleep gear.
• Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin: Its defining advantage is the ergonomic, low-profile shape built specifically to minimize pressure when lying on your side, though it lacks active noise cancellation and relies solely on passive sound isolation.
• Who it's for: The AIRO Duo is for the tech-savvy commuter who wants high-fidelity sound and features, while the Mudtun is for the dedicated side sleeper who prioritizes zero-pressure comfort above all else.
The AIRO Duo Touch Screen is engineered for people who treat their earbuds as a central hub for their daily audio needs rather than just a sleep aid. The standout feature here is undoubtedly the charging case itself, which doubles as an intuitive control panel. You do not need to constantly reach into your pocket or pull out your smartphone to manage your listening session. With the built-in touchscreen, you can swipe through tracks, toggle between Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Transparency, and Normal modes, and even locate misplaced earbuds directly from the case interface. This level of integration suggests a device built for users who are constantly on the move, switching environments from a noisy office to a busy street, or managing calls during travel.
Audio quality is another major selling point for this model. Equipped with 13mm copper-ring composite dynamic drivers, these earbuds are tuned to deliver deep bass and clear vocals, supported by five distinct EQ presets ranging from Standard to Jazz. If you are looking for a hi-res headset for sleeping where the distinction between instruments matters, or perhaps for listening to complex podcasts and audiobooks during the day, the flexibility of these presets allows you to tailor the sound signature to your specific taste. The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.4 ensures a stable connection with low latency, making them suitable for watching videos or gaming without the annoying lag that plagues older wireless models.

However, the design philosophy here leans heavily toward performance and versatility rather than pure comfort for prone positions. These are standard in-ear headphones with silicone tips designed to create a seal for noise isolation and bass response. While they offer IPX4 protection against sweat and splashes, making them excellent for intense workouts or rainy commutes, the physical bulk means they might feel intrusive if you try to sleep on your side. The earbuds are designed to sit within the ear canal to maximize the acoustic performance of the 13mm drivers. Consequently, while they excel as the best neckband headphones for sleeping in a pinch due to their battery life and sound quality, the fit is simply not optimized for the specific anatomical pressures of side sleeping. They are best suited for the user who wants one pair of earbuds to handle everything from morning runs to evening wind-downs, provided they mostly sleep on their back or stomach.
In stark contrast, the Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin are born from a singular, focused purpose: enabling restful sleep for side sleepers. The engineering here strips away almost every non-essential feature to prioritize the physical sensation of wearing the device while lying down. The most critical aspect of this design is the "ultra-thin" form factor. Unlike standard earbuds that protrude significantly from the ear, these are shaped to curve gently along the ear contour and sit shallowly, avoiding deep insertion into the ear canal. This reduces pressure points that typically cause pain after an hour or two of side sleeping, allowing you to drift off without constantly adjusting your position to escape discomfort.
The user interface is also deliberately simplified to prevent sleep disruption. Instead of sensitive touch controls that might accidentally trigger when your head hits the pillow, Mudtun utilizes physical push buttons. This tactile approach ensures that volume changes or track skips happen only when you intentionally press them, eliminating the frustration of phantom touches. Furthermore, the absence of a low-battery beep is a thoughtful detail for nighttime use; many users have been woken up by harsh digital alerts, but these earbuds simply stop playing without a jarring notification. For those seeking the best noise canceling earbuds for sleeping who prefer a passive solution, the design creates a gentle acoustic seal that physically blocks outside noise without the mechanical hum or hiss sometimes associated with active cancellation systems.
These earbuds are tuned specifically for relaxation content. The 6-millimeter dynamic drivers are calibrated to provide clear, soft, and balanced sound that works beautifully with white noise, ASMR, audiobooks, and relaxing music. Even at lower volumes, the audio details remain intact, ensuring that a soothing narration doesn't become muddy. The battery life supports a full night's rest with about six hours of continuous playback on a single charge, and the charging case provides additional power for daily use. However, the trade-off is clear: there is no active noise cancellation, no touchscreen, and no advanced EQ modes. This is not a device for the person who wants to switch genres instantly or enjoy high-fidelity rock music with heavy bass. It is a tool for the person whose primary goal is to block out the world enough to fall asleep comfortably.
• Best for side sleeping comfort → Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin: The ultra-thin, low-profile shape is specifically engineered to lay flat against the pillow, whereas the AIRO Duo is too bulky for extended side sleeping. - Best for active noise cancellation → AIRO Duo Touch Screen: Only the AIRO model offers true ANC, Transparency, and Normal modes to actively filter out environmental noise like traffic or office chatter. - Best for hands-free control → AIRO Duo Touch Screen: The touchscreen case allows you to manage playback, call settings, and find lost buds without ever touching your phone or the earbuds themselves. - Best for accidental touch prevention → Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin: Physical buttons eliminate the risk of changing tracks or volume while tossing and turning in bed. - Best for audio customization → AIRO Duo Touch Screen: With five EQ modes (Standard, Rock, Pop, Classic, Jazz) and 13mm drivers, you have much more control over sound signatures than the Mudtun's fixed tuning. - Best for durability in wet conditions → AIRO Duo Touch Screen: The IPX4 rating makes the AIRO Duo suitable for sweaty workouts and rain, whereas the Mudtun focuses on indoor, dry sleep environments. - Best for battery monitoring → Both: The AIRO uses a touchscreen display on the case, while the Mudtun features an LED digital display, both offering visual feedback on power levels.
I would buy the Mudtun Sleep Earbuds Ultra-Thin if my primary goal is actually getting a good night's rest. There is no point in having the fanciest audio technology if I cannot wear the device because it hurts my ear after thirty minutes. The AIRO Duo is a fantastic piece of hardware for the gym, the commute, or working from home, but for the specific use case of sleeping on your side, the Mudtun's physical design wins hands down. The lack of active noise cancellation is a small price to pay for the ability to lie on your side without waking up in pain. If you are torn between the two, remember that the AIRO is a general-purpose earbud, while the Mudtun is a specialist tool for the ultimate luxury: uninterrupted sleep.
Both models are designed for personal listening, but the Mudtun's passive noise blocking and lower volume tuning make it less likely to leak sound to a partner compared to the AIRO Duo, which is capable of higher output for music enjoyment.
Yes, you can use them for sleeping if you are a back or stomach sleeper, thanks to their ANC and long battery life, but they are not as comfortable for side sleeping as the Mudtun due to their larger size and deeper in-ear fit.
Both products offer roughly similar battery endurance, with the Mudtun providing about 6 hours of continuous playback and the AIRO Duo supporting long sessions via its Bluetooth 5.4 efficiency, though the AIRO case features a touchscreen display to monitor power.
