Binter Group is a Spanish airline group that was founded on February 18, 1988. The group began operations on March 26, 1989, as Binter Canarias, a regional airline subsidiary of Iberia. The airline's initial mission was to connect the Canary Islands by air. The first flight took off from Tenerife North Airport and headed for Gran Canaria.
In 2002, a group of Canarian investors acquired Binter Canarias from Iberia, marking a significant turning point in the airline's history. The group expanded its operations internationally in 2005, adding direct flights to destinations such as Marrakech, El Aaiún, and Madeira.
Binter Group continued to grow, and by 2012, it had one of the largest ATR fleets in Europe. The group also introduced new routes to Agadir, Casablanca, Cape Verde, and Lisbon. In 2013, Binter inaugurated its new head office in Tenerife and announced new destinations in Africa.
Today, Binter Group operates several subsidiaries, including Binter Canarias, Binter Cabo Verde, and Canair. The group remains a key player in the aviation industry, particularly in the Canary Islands and surrounding region.
