We welcome curious, motivated minds from all levels to collaborate on research that advances AI for resilient infrastructure systems.
Applicants should have a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Construction Management, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Considerable programming experience in MATLAB, C/C++, Java, Python, or any other languages is required.
Particular emphasis on:
🔹 AI-driven risk and resilience assessment for structures and infrastructure
🔹 Vision-based and data-driven infrastructure condition monitoring
🔹 Remote sensing integration (satellite, LiDAR, cameras) for hyperlocal risk analysis
🔹 Graph Machine Learning (GNNs) for optimal network resilience
🔹 Generative modeling for synthetic hazard integration
🔹 Data-driven decision-making for natural hazard mitigation
🔹 Foundational models (LLMs) for fusing multi-modal sensing data
If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of AI for societal impact — particularly at the intersection of infrastructure resilience, remote sensing, and intelligent decision-making — I would love to hear from you!

To the Prospective Ph.D. Students
I receive a high volume of emails regarding research opportunities, and unfortunately it is not possible to respond to each message individually. However, all strong and well-matched applicants will certainly receive a response from me. If you are interested in joining the lab as a Ph.D. student, please ensure that you have a masters degree, substantial research experience in AI/ML, and possess strong programming skills. Highlighting these clearly in your application materials will help me assess your fit more effectively. I truly appreciate your interest in the AiRIS Lab and wish you the very best in your application process.
