I’m Staff Sergeant Sophia J. Heus and I am an active duty enlisted Air Force recruiter in Anaheim, CA. I have been in the Air Force for 8 years and have been stationed in Nebraska (Offutt AFB), Spangdahlem, Germany (Spangdahlem AB) and now Southern California (Anaheim). I am originally from a small town in Wisconsin and during my senior year, I knew I didn't want to go to college, but knew I needed to do something with my life. Ultimately, I wanted to leave my hometown and experience life outside of what I was used to. Joining the military that was something that was always in the back of my mind, and about half way through my senior year, I knew it was what I wanted. I wanted to have a job, all while having the opportunity to travel, meet new people, and be apart of something bigger than myself.
I reached out to my Air Force recruiter and enlisted as Security Forces. Upon graduating basic training and tech school, I made it to Offutt AFB, where I was in charge of doing security for KC-135's, the Navy's E-6B Mercury, and the E-4B, which is primarily used by the POTUS and the Secretary of Defense. After about a year of doing security for those planes, I got a job of being an armorer. This job consisted of accounting for over 500 weapons and being the one to issue out weapons to our Security Forces personnel to go to work every single day. After two years at Offutt AFB, I got picked up to go to Spangdahlem, Germany! There, I spent my first three years as a training instructor, where I taught all of our Security Forces members anything from close quarters combat, to CPR, to using night vision goggles. I spent my last 1.5 years in Germany as a Basic Defense Operations Controller and ultimately completing my time as a Flight Chief, overlooking 25+ airmen on a day-to-day basis, ensuring the job gets done. Fast forward to now, I am recruiting here in Southern California and now it's my turn to help YOU get started. Text me directly to setup an appointment. I’m happy to answer any questions you have to help you get started.
