AI Ready ASEAN is a regional initiative launched by the ASEAN Foundation, with the support of Google.org, to build AI literacy across the ASEAN region. This 2.5-year programme, supported by a USD 5 million grant from Google.org, is aims to equip 5.5 million individuals from all ten ASEAN Member States with essential AI skills. The initiative is designed to prepare ASEAN citizens to thrive in the digital era and embrace AI responsibly and ethically. 

The AI Ready ASEAN initiative will also contribute to the overall goals of relevant ASEAN masterplans and agreements, such as 

• ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 

• ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement

which aims to build an inclusive and sustainable digital economy for ASEAN. 

At the same time, the initiative will also follow the ASEAN Guide on AI Governance and Ethics, ensuring AI is adopted responsibly, with a focus on transparency, fairness, and inclusivity. 

This programme will use a train-the-trainer approach, training 2,000 master trainers who will provide in-depth AI literacy training to over 800,000 end-beneficiaries in local communities. This programme will tailor the curriculum to address the unique needs of each ASEAN Member State, ensuring that the content is relevant and impactful. 

ASEAN Foundation will also establish a regional AI resource hub, featuring localised content and AI education tailored to specific national contexts. Additionally, AI Ready ASEAN will conduct research on AI literacy and ethics and drive awareness campaigns to promote AI’s responsible use in the region.
