1. INTRODUCTION

AI Reading Assistant ("we", "our", "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that provides AI-powered reading comprehension tools. This privacy policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

2. DATA WE DO NOT COLLECT

We DO NOT collect, store, or track:

- Your browsing history

- Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)

- Websites you visit

- Your search history

- Any personally identifiable information

- Financial information

- Location data

- Cookies or tracking data

3. DATA WE PROCESS

Selected Text Processing:

- When you use AI features (summarize, explain, context, study questions), your SELECTED TEXT ONLY is temporarily transmitted to Anthropic's Claude AI API via secure HTTPS connection

- This text is processed by Anthropic to generate your requested result

- We do NOT store, log, or save your selected text

- Anthropic's processing is subject to their privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/privacy

Text-to-Speech:

- Uses your browser's built-in speech synthesis API

- No data is transmitted to any server

- Completely private and works offline

4. LOCAL STORAGE

The extension stores the following data LOCALLY on your device only:

- Pro license key (if you purchase a subscription)

- Daily usage counter (to enforce free tier limit)

- Last reset date (to reset daily counter)

This data is stored using Chrome's storage.local API and never leaves your device except for license validation (see below).

5. LICENSE VALIDATION

If you purchase a Pro subscription:

- Your license key is sent to Gumroad's API to verify its validity

- Only the license key is transmitted (no personal information)

- Gumroad's processing is subject to their privacy policy: https://gumroad.com/privacy

- We receive only a validation response (valid/invalid)

- No payment information is ever transmitted to or stored by our extension

6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Anthropic Claude AI:

- Purpose: Process selected text for AI features

- Data sent: Selected text only (when you request AI features)

- Privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/privacy

- Data retention: Subject to Anthropic's policies

Gumroad:

- Purpose: License validation and payment processing

- Data sent: License key only (when activating Pro)

- Privacy policy: https://gumroad.com/privacy

- We never receive payment details

7. DATA SECURITY

- All API communications use HTTPS encryption

- No data is stored on our servers (we don't have servers)

- All extension data is stored locally on your device

- You can delete all data by uninstalling the extension

8. YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right to:

- Use the extension completely anonymously

- Access your locally stored data (via Chrome DevTools)

- Delete all extension data (uninstall the extension)

- Contact us with privacy questions

9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

- The extension does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children

- No age verification is required or performed

- Safe for all ages

10. CHANGES TO PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal/regulatory reasons. Check this page periodically. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

11. DATA RETENTION

- Selected text: Not retained (processed in real-time only)

- License key: Stored locally until you uninstall

- Usage counter: Resets daily, stored locally

12. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS

- Selected text may be processed by Anthropic's API servers (location varies)

- All transfers are encrypted via HTTPS

- Subject to Anthropic's data practices
