Rules
Rules:
You must be at least 18 years of age to play in the adult club
No outdoor footwear in the gymnasiums and no marking soles permitted.
Street shoes must be left at the entrance of the school.
Do not enter the gym until the designated start time and the previous community-use group has finished up.
We strongly promote a fun, social and stress-free environment. Any poor attitudes or offensive behavior will not be tolerated.
Only players within a game will judge their own game (unless requested).
Ensure a fair rotation of players where everyone has an equal turn. This will give all an opportunity to play frequently and with different skill sets.
When possible, please help others setup and tear-down the badminton equipment upon arrival and before you leave.
Players are requested to allow sufficient time to ensure the facility is vacated by the designated end-time
Photography and videography in the school gyms is not permitted by non board members due to privacy concerns.
Any concerns can be discussed with any of the board members.
Guidelines:
Generally individuals wear shorts and T-shirts to play.
The school gym has washrooms and changing facilities, but no showers
A lot of players bring a water bottle, but there is a public fountain in the school
Badminton rackets are not provided by the club and players need to bring their own
Matches are generally doubles because single matches can be exhausting and the school gym only has three courts.
Each game is composed of random mixed doubles, but we try to balance the player skill sets across both doubles pairs.
The Airdrie Badminton Club has our own Badminton nets and we supply birdies for our players
The first 5-10 minutes each night is spent doing warm-up by rallying the birdie until players are ready. If a player starts late it is courteous to ask if they want to warm-up before their first game.
Olympic Rules Badminton rules are used where every serve results in a point. A match goes up to 21 points and after completion of the game the players yield the court.
