(Heterogeneous Interface Design)
(Welding Process)
(Electronic Packaging and Bonding)
(Metal Matrix Composites)
(Surface Treatment)
The Architected Interface Manufacturing Laboratory (AIMLab) focuses on interface design as its core research theme, investigating the construction, control, and optimization of interfacial structures within heterogeneous material systems. We extend the theoretical foundations of interface design into practical manufacturing and bonding technologies, developing research outcomes that combine scientific depth with engineering application value.
We believe that whether joining metal-to-metal, metal-to-ceramic, or materials of different scales and properties, performance and reliability are largely determined by the microstructure, chemical composition, and mechanical properties within the interfacial region. Accordingly, our research strategy begins with the design and fundamental understanding of interfaces, then extends toward process development and materials applications, forming a coherent research framework:
Heterogeneous Interface Design
Welding Process
Electronic Packaging & Bonding
Metal Matrix Composites
Surface Treatment
We start where reliability matters most—battery module packaging for EVs and energy storage, driving the bonding performance and thermal efficiency electrification demands. Next, we're engineering the future of direct bonding—metal-to-metal, dielectric, and hybrid systems—powering next-gen semiconductor packaging like Chiplet and 3D IC.
