My research focuses on engineering microbial enzymes and communities through protein engineering and synthetic biology to tackle environmental and industrial challenges. I am particularly interested in integrating structure-guided protein mutagenesis and multi-omics approaches (e.g., LC-MS/MS, NGS) to develop microbial platforms for ecological restoration and climate change mitigation. Specifically, my work involves: (i) designing biosynthetic pathways for the sustainable production of value-added compounds from biomass, CO2 and other renewable feedstocks; (ii) discovering and engineering microbial enzymes to enhance catalytic performance; and (iii) applying spatial metagenomics and culturomics to understand and harness microbial interactions in complex environments. Through these strategies, my research aims to design microbial systems for the production of target compounds and ensure their robust performance in real-world environments.
