Dr. Herman Crawford holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Currently serving as the Department Chair of Hospitality at Pikes Peak State College, he brings over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry and higher education, empowering students and professionals as lifelong learners.
Behind his achievements lies a journey of resilience. Diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), learning disabilities, and emotional disturbance in fourth grade, Dr. Crawford spent years in Special Education classrooms—literal basements designed more for containment than learning. His report cards bore the letters “NG” for Non-Graded, reflecting the low expectations placed on him. Yet, his critical thinking and adaptability shone through, allowing him to navigate mainstream and Special Ed worlds while defying the labels imposed on him.
Today, Dr. Crawford uses his experiences to advocate for inclusive education. Committed to Universal Design for Learning, he champions accessibility, alternative assessments, and assistive technologies, ensuring no student feels limited by traditional educational structures. His journey from the basement to leadership fuels his passion for empowering all learners, particularly those who feel overlooked or misunderstood.
