The Silicon Valley cultists made their debut in Geek Addiction as 5 hooded figures performing a ritual with the help of the Necronomicon. The ritual ends up thwarting Bob's plans, but they're not powerful priests and sorcerers - they're merely following the instructions of someone else whom they refer to as their Master.

During the ritual, they hail Alhazred, who's called the Necronomicon's priest, the many tentacled spawn of Yuggoth, and Azathoth, the Sultan, credited with the creation of the universe itself.

INSPIRATION

The Necronomicon is of course a Lovecraftian creation, as are the names hailed by the cultists during the ritual. However, this version works more like a magical book than a mere collection of formulas. Also, the idea of this cult owes more to Max Chafkin's The Contrarian and the worries surrounding Silicon Valley's tech companies and most famous denizens than to the Chtulhu Mythos.
