This research explores the development of a responsible AI ecosystem for education in Africa and SE Asia, focusing on equitable access, localized content, community building, and ethical AI integration. Through TrueLeap's case studies in the DRC, Ghana, and India, we examine how AI can leapfrog traditional barriers in education, enabling scalable and culturally relevant learning solutions. The study highlights real-world implementations of AI-driven learning platforms, collaborations with all the stakeholders in the ecosystem including educators and learners, policymakers and technologist to ensure AI fosters skill development, accessibility, and long-term impact across diverse learning environments.

Nisa is a platform and suite of tools designed to extend the reach of instructional coaches. Coaching is one of the most impactful practices to improve teacher skill and student outcomes, but it is very time intensive, with many barriers to ideal implementation. Nisa uses AI to reduce time spent on non-coaching tasks, provide support resources for coaches to give to teachers, and increase coach skill. The product aims to increase touchpoints that strengthen the coach-teacher relationship, and deepen one on one coaching sessions.

LearnLaunch Fund + Accelerator was created to support diverse entrepreneurs who drive equity, access, and outcomes in education and workforce upskilling. Since 2013, we have invested in 86 companies, of which 67% are led by female and/or BIPOC entrepreneurs. We target both positive social impact and market-rate returns. Our efforts have resulted in a portfolio of investments that use cutting-edge technology and human-centered design to enable future-proof learning, earning, and collaboration in the PreK-12, Higher Ed, and Workforce Development & Lifelong Learning markets. Pre-seed stage startups face unique business challenges due to the nature of the education and workforce upskilling market. This is why our investment comes with a 12-week learning accelerator program focused on navigating these key challenges. During the program, we deliver industry-focused master classes, connection with a deep reservoir of mentors, and expert coaching to the entrepreneurs we work with. We believe that measurement and understanding of impact metrics lead to greater business sustainability and growth. HiSolver is a social marketplace that blends community and social media features with tools to help content creators build digital products for monetizing their audience. These products are primarily educational, featuring traditional formats like courses and eBooks, as well as new offerings such as AI tutors, mentoring with AI clones (in voice and video), and AI-generated micro apps.
Our social marketplace enables creators to engage their communities and share their knowledge and expertise as AI-augmented services in fields as varied as finance, health, STEM, and career counseling. We believe the creator economy is the most powerful distribution channel for knowledge to reach large audiences, and our mission is to revolutionize the way people learn and work by enhancing creator capabilities with AI.

Office Ours is an AI-driven application that leverages student notes to enhance engagement with faculty, addressing barriers that limit office hour participation, particularly for international students. This project was developed as part of Professor Ying Xu's class at HGSE, "AI and the Developing Child" in Fall 2025 by group members Alex Sheehan, Dan Be Kim, and Srushti Jayaramu.
Office Ours is available as a local desktop application that is connected to a user’s Notion account. It’s integrated with OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o model to provide tailored feedback on students’ lecture notes and encouragement to cultivate deeper connections with their teaching team. A knowledge base of lecture slides and the syllabus for AI and the Developing Child are stored locally to provide context-driven guidance, alongside the carefully scaffolded application prompting.

Through AI-generated branching narratives, first-person storytelling, and interactive knowledge checks, employees experience real-world dilemmas before they happen, ensuring they are prepared for high-impact situations from day one.
SummaRead
Harvard Graduate School of Education Students
SummaRead is an AI-enabled chatbot that assists student summarization by providing guiding questions, vocabulary resources, and assistance with chunking texts. Summarizing is a well-supported strategy for reading across grade levels but especially for understanding complex texts during middle school. We conducted a mixed-method pilot study with middle school students in Massachusetts that found that students using SummaRead felt more confident and engaged with the text they were presented, compared to a paper-based control group.
