I'm Aiden a 2nd year Mechatronics Engineering undergrad at the University of Waterloo. Originally from Calgary, I travelled across the country to go to the University of Waterloo as it was only one of three schools in Canada to offer the program.
Throughout my life I developed a fasination in theme park engineering. My ultimate goal is to move to the USA to work as a part of the themed entertainment industry as either a theme park ride engineer or an animatronics engineer.
I am an avid golfer and I play on most weekends every summer. I also love watching movies, playing hockey, hiking, and travelling.

I made my decision to go into theme park engineering when I was thirteen years old when I first watched a documentry about how the Disney Imagineers made the Disney parks and I decided right then and there that I would work in the theme park industry.
I have always been fascinated by theme parks and how they are able to transport you to fantastical worlds that look and feel real. My goal is to use my mechatronics degree to contribute to the creation of these parks for others to experience the thrill of being transported to a new reality. Though I have already became a member of TEA to introduce myself to the industry and some of the people in it, my current goal is to use my future Coops and internships to gain more exposure to the industry and help me learn all there is to know about Themed Entertainment.
You might be wondering why I would take Mechatronics Engineering over other engineering disiplines that are more specialized such as mechanical, electrical, or software engineering especially when the majority of theme park engineers fit into one of those disiplines. I chose Mechatronics as it provides me with knowlege of many engineering disciplines rather than just one. I chose this disipline as it mixes many different disiplines together and I believed it would best show me every aspect of theme park engineering. The mechanical side would show me how rides and animatronics are made, the software and systems design aspect would show me the how these rides and animatronics would move in such a realistic fasion, and the electrical aspect would show me the inner workings of how they work. It was the perfect combination of all aspects of theme park engineering.
Though it is known to be one of the most technically demanding engineering disiplines, I believe Mechatronics has properly prepared me for cases where having knowlege of mechanical, electrical, software, and systems design engineering is benificial to assess every angle of a problem and have more concrete solutions to present.
I am currently in my second Co-op term between my 2A and 2B terms lasting from January 2026-April 2026.
I am looking for another Co-op term for between my 2B and 3A terms lasting from September 2026-December 2026
If you are curious what this means:
The University of Waterloo has a Co-op program for engineering where you alternate between school and work every 4 months until I reach my Co-op between 3B and 4A which will last for 8 months (January 2028-August 2028).
You might be asking yourself "Why would I choose Aiden over someone else?" and I'll be honest this is a question I have long pondered. I wish I could say that "I'm the best at everything I do" or "I am the most qualified" or "I am the perfect candidate for the role"
... but I am not. There is always someone better. Someone with better grades, better projects, more knowledge, more experience etc. I am not perfect nor the most qualified nor the perfect candidate by any means.
So what sets me apart from everyone else...
My drive.
My drive to learn, to work, and to get things done is what sets me apart from the rest. Though I may not be the best, smartest, or most skilled, I can guarantee that I will always be the hardest worker. The person who will be the first in the office and the last one out, the person who will always deliver high quality results quickly and effectively every time, the person who can juggle many tasks and complete them all in a timely fasion.
