Our History

Early History About The African Inland Church Of Kenya:

The Africa Inland Church (AIC) began as the Africa Inland Mission (AIM) in 1895, founded by Peter Cameron Scott in Kenya. The AIM was initially based among the Kamba people and faced numerous hardships. In 1946, the African Interior Church (A.I.C.) was formed through a schism from the Church of God Mission, Kima in Bunyore, becoming an independent African church.  

Formation of the A.I.C. (1946):

• Schism:
  The African Interior Church was formed after a schism from the Church of God Mission in Kima, marking the beginning of an independent African church.

• Growth:
  The A.I.C. experienced growth and development, establishing its own structure and identity within the Kenyan church landscape. 

Key Features and Contributions:

• Incorporation of African Traditions:
  The A.I.C. has been noted for incorporating traditional African practices into its worship and rituals. 

• Economic Contributions:
  The church has played a significant role in the economic development of Kenya, particularly through the efforts of women's groups. 

• African-Initiated Church:
  The A.I.C. is a prominent example of an African-initiated church, reflecting the broader movement of independent African churches. 

Leadership and Structure:

• Regional Leadership:
  AIC Kenya is organized into regions, each overseen by a Regional Bishop or Overseer, who ensures the implementation of national policies and supports pastors.

• Leadership Structure:
  The church has a hierarchical structure, with various levels of leadership and oversight. 

The AIC remains a significant and influential church in Kenya, with a history rooted in missionary efforts and a growing commitment to African-initiated Christianity.
