The First Person View (FPV) drone team trains pilots from the ground up to build real-world flight skills, regulatory knowledge, and the technical expertise needed to operate safely.
FPV Drone Team trains pilots with hands-on experience with both small and large drones, progressing from simulator sessions to real-world stick time on BETAFPV Whoops and their custom-built 5-inch builds. The team prepares pilots for FAA TRUST recreational certification and FAA Part 107 commercial licenses - giving members experiences and credentials that carry beyond into professional and research settings.
Beyond flying, members develop technical fluency in flight controller configuration, PID tuning, and ground control station operation. At competition, trained pilots step into Safety Pilot and Remote Pilot-in-Command roles to ensure every flight meets FAA regulatory standards. Simulators are maintained for practice and are deployed at outreach events to introduce new pilots to FPV flight.
