Goal & Objective:
This hackathon will serve as a platform where knowledge meets the power of generative AI to address Africa-specific financial challenges. We strongly believe that generative AI holds the key to many innovative solutions and can enable the growth of home-grown startups.
Unleash Innovation: Empower participants to bring forward their ideas and local insights to create AI-driven solutions for the unique financial challenges Africa faces.
Nurture Entrepreneurship: Foster an environment where participants can envisage and initiate startups based on the prototypes developed during the hackathon.
Upskill Participants: Enable participants to harness the capabilities of the OpenAI ChatGPT API, bolstering their proficiency in AI and its applications.
Guidelines:
Teams of 2 - 4 members will work on developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to address a specific financial problem prevalent in Africa using LLM (Eg. OpenAI ChatGPT API or PaLM 2 API). Some key pointers are given below
The hackathon will commence with a Tutorial and demonstration on the usage of the PaLM 2 API for interested participants/teams.
Teams are encouraged to bring forth their unique ideas and data sets, emphasizing solutions that reflect their deep understanding of local challenges. However, we also provide some assistance/options you can consider in the "Ideation Process" below.
Teams can also access sample data to facilitate their work where necessary using the "Sample Datasets" button above
All participants have to register on the Hackathon website to join a team through this link
using the "Register" button above.
Expected Outcomes:
Team Submissions are due by 6pm GMT on Thursday, September 7th 2023. Submission packet should comprise the following:
Presentation Deck - Maximum of 10 slides that include;
Problem Statement, Approach, Outcome, App WireFrames & Link (url) to deployed App
Code - submitted in Jupyter Notebooks. Judges must be able to successfully run code to verify results.
Data must be included in the packet.
Submission packets must be in a compressed form (.zip).
All submissions must be emailed to ai.africa@jpmorgan.com
Ideation Process:
To stimulate the process, a team may consider exploring the following areas:
AI-Assisted Social Impact Fund: A platform that uses AI to analyze data on social, economic, educational, and environmental indicators to direct micro-investments from people around the world to businesses and initiatives creating a positive impact in African communities.
Financial Inclusion and Credit Scoring System: An AI-powered system that uses alternative data sources (like mobile usage, bill payments, social data, etc.) to assess creditworthiness and facilitate loans for individuals and small businesses traditionally excluded from the formal banking sector.
AI for Fraud Detection in Mobile Transactions: A system that utilizes AI to analyze patterns and detect fraudulent activities in mobile money transactions, increasing the security and trust in digital financial services.
Localized NLP Financial Advisor: A chatbot that supports local African languages that provide financial advice, guides users through financial services, and helps in managing personal finance, particularly through mobile platforms.
Decision Support Tools: AI-driven tools that aid NGOs, governments, and policy-makers in making informed decisions about resource allocation for poverty alleviation efforts based on predictive modelling and trend analysis.
Investment Attraction Analysis System: A system that employs AI to analyze market trends, investment data, and economic indicators to suggest sectors and regions ripe for foreign investments, fostering economic growth.
