Reaching Genova by Air
Genoa has its own airport, which is on the seafront and a twenty-minute taxi ride from the Faculty of Educational Sciences where the conference will be held. The taxi fare is approximately €20. There is also a half-hourly bus service which takes you into the town centre. There are four other convenient Italian airports with many flights: Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, Milan (Bergamo) Orio al Serio, and Pisa:
Milan Malpensa - An express train shuttle takes you to Milano Centrale railway station. Buses take you directly from Malpensa to Milano Centrale railway station. The drive takes 35-45 minutes, depending on the traffic and you can buy a ticket using your debit card right at the bus.
Milan Linate - Buses take you directly from Linate to Milano Centrale railway station. The drive takes 25-35 minutes and you can buy a ticket using your debit card right at the bus. The airport is within the city boundaries, and thus the handiest.
Milan Orio Al Serio - Buses take you directly from Milan (Bergamo) Orio al Serio to Milano Centrale railway station. The drive takes approx. 50 minutes and you can buy a ticket using your debit card right at the bus.
Pisa - There is a direct train approximately every 5-8 minutes which takes you to Pisa Centrale railway station in about 5 minutes.
By Train
Genoa has two main railway stations: Genova Piazza Principe railway station or to Genova Brignole railway station, which you can reach using Trenitalia. Milano Centrale railway station there are fast Intercity trains approximately every two hours which get you to Genova Piazza Principe railway station or to Genova Brignole railway station in approximately 1hr 45 mins. From Pisa Centrale railway station there are fast Intercity trains approximately every two hours which get you to Genova Piazza Principe railway station or to Genova Brignole railway station in approximately 2 hours.
Transport in Genoa
You need an AMT ticket to get any bus or Metro in Genoa. You also need the same ticket to access the elevators and funicolare around the city. You can buy the tickets at the tabachieri or use the AMT app.
Food and Dining Scene
Local Cuisine Highlights: Pesto alla Genovese originates here and is a must-try, along with Focaccia—especially the local focaccia al formaggio—and a wide variety of fresh seafood, making Genoa ideal for informal networking dinners and authentic Italian dining experiences.
Dietary Options: Vegetarian and vegan options are widely available, such as Soul Kitchen, Verdurine, or Angelina punto vegano e vegetariano. Glutenfree options are more difficult to find but we recommend ZeroG.
Popular Dining Areas: The Porto Antico offers a scenic harbor setting, the Piazza delle Erbe provides a more authentic and atmospheric experience, and Boccadasse delivers a charming seaside village feel.
What to See & Do
Genoa offers a rich mix of culture, history, and coastal charm, with highlights including the Aquarium of Genoa—one of Europe’s largest—a stroll along the UNESCO-listed Via Garibaldi with its grand palaces, and a visit to the impressive Genoa Cathedral. For a more relaxed experience, attendees can explore the picturesque seaside district of Boccadasse, enjoy nightlife and social spots in the Old Town or Porto Antico, or take organized excursions to nearby destinations like Cinque Terre or along the Italian Riviera.
