15.10.2025 Kick-off meeting for the partners of Erasmus+ project Empowering Volunteers With Ai-Powered Tools For Refugee Language Proficiency.
This cooperation project between the Swedish and Dutch actors aims to empower volunteers and non-professional language trainers by integrating AI-driven language teaching methods and digital tools to improve language learning for migrants and refugees.
Main objectives:
1. Develop an AI-powered online toolkit using existing AI tools to train volunteers in lesson planning, conversation exercises, pronunciation coaching, and real-time language corrections.
2. Enhance digital literacy of volunteers by equipping them with speech-to-text tools, AI translation services, gamified learning platforms, and adaptive teaching methods.
3. Promote inclusion of senior and less mobile volunteers by providing accessible online training, enabling them to engage as digital language mentors.
4. Improve non-formal language education for refugees through structured AI-assisted resources tailored to different proficiency levels, making volunteer-led training more effective.
5. Facilitate faster integration of migrants and refugees by offering AI-enhanced, job-specific language training for key employment sectors.
The strategic partnership project is coordinated by Maya Language Training (NL) within Erasmus+ programme.

10.03.2026 We are happy to present the needs analysis results.
The AI4Volunteers needs analysis brought together insights from 51 volunteer language educators working with refugees and migrants across Europe. The results show that volunteers are highly motivated and experienced, but many face challenges related to lesson planning, learner engagement, trauma-sensitive teaching, and the effective use of digital tools. While most participants already use online platforms and AI-supported tools in their teaching, confidence levels with digital technologies vary significantly, especially among older volunteers. At the same time, over 80% of respondents expressed a strong interest in accessible online training and practical teaching resources. These findings confirm the importance of developing inclusive, easy-to-use AI-supported tools and training materials that strengthen both digital competencies and the human-centred approach essential to volunteer language education.
