Dr. Apurba Nandi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal, where he joined in June 2026. Born in West Bengal, India, he pursued his undergraduate education at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, followed by an M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, where he received the Academic Excellence Award and worked with Prof. Sridhar R. Gadre.

He subsequently joined Emory University, USA, for his Ph.D. in Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Joel M. Bowman. During his doctoral research, he received the Quayle Excellence in Research Award. Following his Ph.D., he continued at Emory as a Postdoctoral Fellow before moving to the University of Luxembourg, where he worked with Prof. Alexandre Tkatchenko in the Department of Physics and Materials Science.

His research lies at the intersection of Machine Learning and Quantum chemistry. He has been working on developing machine-learned interatomic potentials and applying them to quantum molecular simulations, with the goal of understanding complex molecular phenomena at high accuracy and computational efficiency. His research interests include quantum molecular spectroscopy, molecular dynamics, and chemical reaction dynamics, with a particular emphasis on developing computational methods that bridge the accuracy of quantum-mechanical approaches with the efficiency of machine-learning-based models.
