Questions

Below you will find some answers to common questions. We will continue to update this list as we work further details. Please also check the NeurIPS FAQ for general NeurIPS question. For any questions not covered in the FAQ, feel free to email us at ai4mat-neurips@googlegroups.com.

Will the workshop be held virtually as well as in-person?

In 2023, the workshop will only be held in person.

What's the idea for the tutorial/explainer track? who is the target audience?

Target audience is ML researchers new to the field of material discovery and researchers already in the field. A good idea of what a mix of tutorial/explainer would be is distill.pub, obviously we are not expecting a full distill like article.

Non-archival submission?  How should I think about a submission?

AI4Mat submissions are non archival, so that means it does not count as getting published, the format is less restrictive than a typical paper submission, the peer-review is lightweight, mostly to verify content that fits the workshop theme with some feedback to improve for final venues.

We consider a submission more similar to a pre-print, the objective is to get early feedback on your work before submission to a journal.

The workshop is a good venue for getting visibility on your work and potentially getting collaborators.

You can also use it as a platform to voice work (i..g engineering logs, opinions on practice) that would normally be hard to publish in a traditional format.

Can I submit work that's already been published?

We generally welcome work that is under review at other venues (including both machine learning venues and workshop related fields, such as chemistry and materials science), but discourage submissions of previously published work. This is in line with the NeurIPS guidelines stating that work that has been previously published in machine-learning or related fields is ineligible for any workshop.

Can I present my work at more than one NeurIPS workshop?

Yes, NeurIPS workshops are independent.
