AI4EM is a resource hub for materials related to artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. More specifically, we are focused on compiling studies, articles, and popular media sources focused on the application of AI to Emergency Medicine.

ML for MDs - Machine Learning for Physicians is a Slack channel dedicated to providing a platform for physicians to share and discuss AI in healthcare. This Slack channel includes an extensive archive of information and serves as one of the most frequently updated resources on AI in medicine. This graph illustrates the growth in studies focused on machine and deep learning found on PubMed. It also highlights that EM is currently one of the smaller specialties when it comes to published articles within this area. As this research area expands and implementation of AI in the healthcare setting increases, we hope AI4EM will be a valuable, centralized hub to explore vetted information on the topic.

While we at EMIC are extremely excited about the potential of AI, machine learning, and large language models, recent surveys of the American public by the Pew Research Center reveal that the majority of patients have trepidations regarding this new technology. This highlights the need for continued communication between healthcare providers and patients regarding the potential benefits of AI as well as the need for rigorous research studies exploring its application and implementation.
