He is a full Professor of Computer Science and Computer Engineering at University Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, and he is a Visiting Professor in AI and Biomedical Engineering at the Department of Diagnostics and Intervention, Umeå University, Sweden. He is the coordinator of the Italian National PhD program in AI, Health and Life Sciences area. He is an expert in AI: his research interests include multimodal (deep) learning, generative approaches, eXplainable AI, and resilience of AI algorithms. His research is applied to various domains, such as medical imaging, clinical data, 5P medicine, social media analytics and energy management. He is included in the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List 2023, 2024, 2025 (single year and/or career), and he was awarded in the top 500 Italian AI experts in 2024.
He is a researcher and solution architect specializing in applied artificial intelligence, complex software systems, and data-driven decision support. He is Head of the Software and Complex Systems Engineering Department at the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest), where he leads multidisciplinary teams working on AI-enabled platforms spanning healthcare, IoT, and knowledge-centric systems. His work focuses on the design of trustworthy, clinically grounded AI systems that augment human expertise through structured knowledge integration, multimodal data processing, and agent-based architectures. Dr. Boncea holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications and Information Technologies from Politehnica University of Bucharest. His research interests include augmented intelligence for healthcare, multimodal data integration, knowledge-centric AI systems, and the practical deployment of reliable AI infrastructures in real-world environments.
He is an Assistant Professor (non-tenure track, RTD-A) at University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, in the Department of Engineering, Unit of Computer Systems and Bioinformatics. He graduated with honors in Data Science from Sapienza University of Rome, where he also completed his PhD in Data Science. He subsequently undertook a PostDoc focusing on Artificial Intelligence for precision medicine. His research interests include multimodal deep learning, explainable artificial intelligence, and the application of digital twins in biomedical fields.
She is an Associate Professor of Information Processing Systems at UniCamillus – Saint Camillus International University of Health Sciences, Rome, Italy. She received her PhD in Bioengineering and Biosciences (Computer Science area) from the University Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, where she previously served as a researcher in the Faculty of Engineering. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on machine learning, deep learning, and multimodal data analysis. Her work combines methodological advances and real-world applications in domains such as precision medicine, clinical decision support, medical imaging, multimodal time-series analysis, and social media analytics.
He is an Assistant Professor (RTD-A) at the University of Genoa in the Department of Naval, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunications. Previously, he graduated with honors in biomedical engineering from the University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, where he also completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering (Computer Science area). He subsequently undertook a PostDoc focusing on Artificial Intelligence for precision medicine at the same university on the topic of Artificial Intelligence. His research interests encompass multimodal deep learning, reinforcement learning, and computer vision in biomedical and industrial fields.
