Submit your own vignette or a reflection on one of our examples!
Are you interested in how Artificial Intelligence (AI) shapes identity, personhood, relationships, and lived experience?
Do you research, design, or work with AI systems that raise questions around autonomy, care, communication, disability, social connection, or ethics? Or are you interested in how AI might better recognise the complexity and fluidity of personhood?
If so, we invite you to participate in our BritCHI 2026 workshop, where we will collaboratively explore these questions through discussion, creative activities, and agenda building.
We welcome participants from academia (e.g., students, researchers, lecturers, and faculty), industry (e.g., designers, practitioners, developers, and researchers), healthcare, and the wider HCI community. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary perspectives and welcome participants working across AI, HCI, healthcare, accessibility, participatory design, ethics, and related disciplines.
To participate, we invite you to submit one of two contribution types:
Option 1 – Submit a vignette or provocation (250 words approx.). Your submission may be grounded in your own research, lived experience, speculative futures, design practice, or wider areas of interest. We encourage contributions that explore themes such as identity, care, autonomy, relationships, social connection, disability, or AI-mediated experiences.
Option 2 – Respond to an organiser-provided vignette (250 words approx). A collection of example vignettes will be available on the workshop website prior to the submission deadline. If you choose this option, we ask you to explain why you selected the vignette and how it relates to your own research, interests, or practice. You can find these here.
Following the submission deadline, organisers will develop a curated collection of workshop vignettes based on participant submissions, alongside organiser-developed examples. These will form the basis of the layered vignette annotation activity during the workshop, ensuring that participant contributions directly shape the discussions while providing a shared set of materials for collaborative exploration.
Submissions should be made through the online submission form (here) by 13 August 2026. Participants will be notified of acceptance by 27 August 2026.
