Our Program
We are a High School club sport. We operate under the rules and regulations of USA Ultimate and play in the TUSC365 high school division. To learn about the basics and rules of how the game of Ultimate is played, check out Discover Ultimate and 10 Simple Rules at USA Ultimate. Tryouts and Teams
Students of all skill levels who are interested in learning about and joining Austin High Ultimate can come to any of our Fall semester preseason practices that are led by our Team Captains, no tryouts required. It's that simple!
Coaching Team will lead skill development opportunities, on-field training and drills, knowledge of the rules of the game, and much more to develop a strong understanding of the sport and to ready the players/team for competitive play. Official team rosters will be determined and organized by the Coaching Team and Team Captains. Depending on our numbers at the end of Fall practice, we typically have an A team and B team formed, with a C team if our numbers are big. Teams typically have rosters of 12-18 players with substitutes. There are 7 players on the field at all times. Teams are co-ed and we offer our girls and nonbinary players the opportunity to also participate in a once-a-week girls and nonbinary practice in addition to the all-players ones.
Registration
Registration will begin mid October and end in November. Announcements will be made in the following: this website's calendar, Instagram, the Austin High Maroon Update Newsletter, the PTSA Facebook page, and to the team's and parent's GroupMe. Every effort will be made to share the news that we're open!
Membership is also open to, not only Austin High students, but to high school students throughout the Austin community who might not have access to Ultimate Frisbee at their schools or whose school program is too small to form a team. Our team has been welcoming high school students from other schools for years!
Our Calendar Year
Before our official practice program begins in the Fall, the team puts on impromptu/informal Pick Up Days. Anyone interest in hanging out with the team is invited to join. These events are announced on the fly, based on when the team can gather a good group to be able to play some scrimmages. Mid-Fall semester is when our preseason practice begins. In the Spring semester, practice continues on throughout the season that ends mid-May.
It is through TUSC365 that our Spring season is structured. The high school division plays 6 weekends (2 games per weekend, 12 games total) with the fore-mentioned mandatory Spring practices during the week, immediately after school. Each school is required to complete a minimum of 3 hours of practice time per week. The season continues with playoff rounds and ends at the coveted State Championship Tournament mid May. Our semester ends with the End-of-Year Banquet and Awards Presentation.Throughout the year, we host fun and inclusive events for parents, families, and the team.

Uniforms

Unofficial add-ons with the team logo (not included in the cost of the official uniform) will be available for purchase: logo sun hoodies, practice jerseys, gear duffle bags, etc.
All players need cleats due to the safety issues created by playing without them. Lacrosse or football wide-receiver cleats are highly recommended, as they are more durable and offer necessary traction for pivoting and demanding maneuvers than soccer cleats, however soccer cleats also work well. Make sure the cleats do not have metal spikes.
Additionally, players are encouraged to have a disc of their own. The standard disc used in play is the Discraft Ultrastar. They are fairly cheap and can be purchased here: https://www.discraft.com/ultimate/ultimate/
