English Department-Alpharetta High School
"To survive, you must tell stories"-Umberto Eco
Welcome to Alpharetta High School! My name is Sara Torbert, and I joined Alpharetta High School in 2020 after spending 8 years teaching in Cherokee County Schools. Before teaching in Cherokee County, I taught middle school for 3 years in Troup County Schools. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary English Education from the University of Georgia. GO DAWGS! A few years later, I received my Master of Education in Secondary English Education from Kennesaw State University.
I have experience teaching ELA in 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 12th grades. This year, I am excited to welcome and teach 9th Honors Literature and Composition and 12th British Literature students as we delve into a new school year!
Besides teaching, I enjoy swimming, hiking, reading, and drinking strong coffee. I grew up dancing, running, playing the saxophone, picking honeysuckle, and camping by lakes. I love my husband and two kiddos to the moon and back.
As a teacher, I believe in building an empathetic community with students through listening, reading, writing, and class discussions. I value student voice and will work hard to ensure that my students' voices are heard, respected, and nurtured. I am committed to teaching multiple perspectives and cultures to educate the whole student. I enjoy collaborating with students, parents, colleagues, administration, and community members, so please do not hesitate to contact me! Thank you for allowing me into your world.
