CyberPatriot is a competition focused on defensive security within operating systems and networks. It consists of two different challenges for a team to complete: the Cisco Networking Challenge and the Network Security Challenge.
Competition Layout:
The goal is to score as many points as possible from both challenges. The competition is held online and is completed on the player's computer. Players are given a maximum of 6 hours to complete the challenges. Teams consist of 6 student max. It is most ideal to assign each member with a task:
Cisco Networking Challenge: 2 working together to complete quiz and packet tracer assignment
Network Security Challenge: 2 on Linux, 1 on Windows Server and 1 on Windows Home
More information about how the competition works can be found here.
*** Distinction between the two challenges: The Network Security challenge focuses on the securing the individual clients in a network, while the Cisco Networking Challenge deals with the network as a whole-- things like routers, switches, and clients in a network topology.
Network security challenge
Fix vulnerabilities within a virtual machine by configuring it (Windows and Linux), scoring points for each vulnerability found and corrected.
Cisco Networking Challenge
Take an online quiz on networking concepts and configure a virtual network through Cisco's packet tracer software (that simulates hosts , routers, data traveling, etc.)
