Here are some examples of what tutors may do during a tutoring session!

Reading (k~8)

Reading out loud a book that’s right for their level. 

Reviewing words students had trouble with at the next session to build vocabulary. 

 Comprehension questions. 

• Can you explain to me why the cat is sad?

• Where is Emily headed to?

• How many types of monkeys are there?

Writing (k ~ 2)

Using worksheets & lined paper to practice writing. 

Using prompts to write their own sentence.

• Would you rather ____?

• What is your favorite ____?

Writing (3 ~ 8)

Writing a short journal entry or a story to correct it together.

• This may be assigned as optional "homework" if the student is up to it!

Using the chat feature on Zoom to have a conversation. 

Speaking/Listening (k ~ 12)

Having a conversation about various topics

• How was your day?

• What are you excited about right now?

• What was your favorite thing you did this week?

Playing "I see a"

• Using images with multiple objects, students can identify and name certain things they spot in the picture. 

Homework Support (4 ~ 8)

Clarifications in their home language of concepts students could not understand in class.

Review before tests + tips.

Help with assignments.

Fun Activities!

Playing games (mad-libs, 20 questions, etc…).

Watching videos.

Show and tell.
