Project Title: A novel biomass-derived Na/K-ion battery prototype for the next-generation low-cost energy storage system.
Principal Investigator: Dr. Al-Nakib Chowdhury
Duties and responsibilities:
Explored waste like cotton or jute waste as potential biomass sources by converting them into useful hard carbons and soft cellulose-based gel membranes.
Designed and fabricated hard carbon anode materials from cotton or jute waste for novel Na/K ion battery half and full cells.
Investigated the issues of ion storage as well as the ion exchange mechanism between anode and cathode through a polyelectrolytic cellulose gel separator.
Developed a Na/K-ion battery prototype for the low-cost next-generation energy storage system.
Conducted advanced lab methods: inert atmospheres; electrochemical measurements (CV, CCCD, EIS, GITT); and material characterizations (XRD, FTIR, UV, FESEM).
Investigated and interpreted experimental data from XRD, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, HRTEM, FTIR, UV, FESEM, CV, CCCD, EIS, and GITT.
Assisted the postgraduate-level researcher in designing and performing new research work.

Project Title: Preparation of green adhesives utilizing supramolecular dynamic bonds of polymers.

Assisted in the preparation and mechanical characterization of polyampholyte hydrogels.
Analyzed the heavy metal ion removal capacity of prepared hydrogels by cyclic voltammetry.
Established and interpreted the dynamics of metal ion adsorption processes and the key parameters governing sorption kinetics.
Investigated the relationship between self-healing efficiency and supramolecular gel structure using polyampholyte hydrogels as a model system.
Analyzed and interpreted the data and prepared research reports.
Mentored and instructed graduate students in conducting their thesis work.

Developed and characterized a crushed 3D graphene-based rGO-MnOx composite using metal and metal oxide templates.
Comprehended the morphology-dependent chemical and physical properties of the synthesized nanocomposite.
Studied the electrochemical performance of the prepared 3D-graphene-based rGO-MnOx nanocomposite and interpreted these with the obtained experimental and characterization data.
