Student led wards have been trialled at Birmingham City University for nurses and other AHPs. This practical placement involves students assessing, planning and delivering care to a certain group of patients whilst working alongside their clinical educator (BCU, 2022).

Different year groups and universities mix so students can practice their communication skills in a varied environment. This is emphasised when communicating with other health professionals and patients also

Students don't feel the pressure to follow their supervisor and shadow them
