The Artificial Intelligence in the Built Environment course has been one of the most useful and meaningful subjects I have taken during my architectural studies. Throughout the semester, the course introduced me to the growing role of artificial intelligence in architecture and showed how AI can support the design process when it is used responsibly. It changed the way I think about design by showing that technology is not only a tool for producing images, but also a tool for questioning, analysing, improving, and communicating architectural ideas.
The course covered important topics such as AI awareness, generative design, environmental analysis, sustainability, ethics, and professional responsibility. Through lectures, discussions, and assignments, I learned that AI can help architects collect information, explore design alternatives, study environmental performance, and improve visual presentation. However, I also learned that AI should not be treated as a source of final answers. Its real value is in expanding possibilities, supporting critical thinking, and helping designers make more informed decisions.
The assignments in this course encouraged me to reflect more deeply on my own design process. Working on the redesign of my Solar Flare Student Clubhouse project helped me understand how AI can contribute to façade performance, user experience, sustainability strategies, and design communication. The process taught me to question AI outputs, compare different alternatives, and refine ideas through several stages. It also improved my confidence in using digital tools as part of architectural thinking rather than only as presentation tools.
I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to Professor Idris for his guidance and dedication throughout the semester. His explanations were clear, detailed, and easy to follow, even when the topics involved complex ideas related to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. He guided us step by step and encouraged us to think critically instead of simply accepting AI-generated outputs without questioning them.
One thing I truly appreciated was his teaching approach. Professor Idris created a supportive and engaging learning environment where students felt comfortable asking questions, joining discussions, and exploring ideas independently. He was patient, encouraging, and always willing to explain further when students needed help. His commitment to teaching made the course easier to understand and more enjoyable to learn.
The most important lesson I will take from this course is that AI is only a tool and cannot replace the architect. Professor Idris consistently reminded us that AI can support research, creativity, analysis, and decision-making, but the responsibility for critical thinking, ethics, professional judgement, and final design decisions must always remain with the designer.

The knowledge and skills I gained have improved my understanding of artificial intelligence and its future role in architecture. This course has not only taught me how to use AI tools, but also how to use them responsibly, critically, and professionally as I continue developing as a future architect.
