How far will the collective human conscious split after application?
Form for questions on personal ethics
Many of the theoretical forms of artificial human intelligence obviously cross some sort of boundary in human philosophy and ethics. They each modify, add, or take away something from the human aspect that raises eyebrows when being talked about. In the world as we know it now in which most people have never even considered these forms of artificial human intelligence let alone think about them. As a human, it would be difficult to cross the line into a creation of ourselves and not a creation of nature. Personally, I would not want to have a neural interface chip put in my brain or have my brain removed, put on life support, and given mechanical extremities. That is only from the perspective of being a human and having been a human for all my life though. For someone who has no choice but to be in one of these scenarios, such as having an enlarged brain and skull from "birth," that response may be very different. In the end, there is an inherently rigid state of mind that makes a human want to be a human, and I'm not so sure the people would want to give up an aspect of their humanity just for enhanced cognitive prowess. I may be completely wrong though as people are blinded by the results and promises that a more capable brain would serve.
Another question at large is what will happen if these changes are adopted. Humanity has only known humans, not human brain controlled robots or hyper intelligent forms of ourselves. We are ultimately biological robots that perceive the world and each other with our brains, so what makes it different from a biological brain perceiving the world except with a mechanical body? Through the use of involuntary sterilization and other methods typically avoided by conversation, eugenics has been carried out many times in the past. Notable eugenics events have been carried out by man throughout the entirety of history. Unfit to be a soldier for your kingdom? Thrown into a chasm. Bound to a wheelchair or mental disability from birth? Sterilized. Of a different, "lesser" race? Killed. Eugenics is an archaic and primitive idea that may very well make a resurgence should these large disparities between humans occur. Especially so because of the natural fact that the brain is the control center for these ideologies to spawn.
Still from a 1935 Nazi propaganda film, Das Erbe, which conflates natural selection and Eugenics
