Our troop generally meets twice a month on Monday evenings during the school year at Christ Community Church from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Each meeting, we will begin as a large, all-ages group, in the Chapel. We will open with a flag ceremony, devotion, and songs. Next, girls will go into their individual units with girls their own ages to work on badgework. Finally, we will come back together in the Chapel for announcements, a special focus, and worship. To see what an average semester may look like, please see this sample calendar.
In addition to our twice monthly meetings, we do a monthly service project, a yearly father-daughter event, and several other special events throughout the year. Our troop emphasizes getting outdoors through our camping events, which progress as a girl moves through the program. Our oldest girls camp 4-5 times each year, culminating in the week-long summer adventure. Girls ages 9+ attend a weekend camp each summer. Even our youngest girls get to attend our (indoor) winter camp and family camp in the summer.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS: AHG is a volunteer organization that is not possible without the involvement of parents. Our troop requires the mom from each family to become a registered member so that she is able to participate in troop activities, especially camps. A parent from each family is asked to volunteer in some way and there are many ways to serve both large and small, with the girls or backstage, and in helping your daughter keep accurate records. AHG is NOT meant to be a hands-off, child-centric activity - girls are most successful when their parents are in tune with the program.
COSTS FOR AHG: We want to be fully transparent about the cost of joining AHG. See our cost document about costs for our troop. In addition, we do a large fundraiser every fall to help offset costs. Girls are expected to do their best at raising funds so that we can keep our costs low.
