What do my students need to be successful every day?
My classroom environment is built around the routines that my students have to come to expect which help them prepare for learning every day. There are no surprises in my classroom. Students have dedicated time every day to share out their thoughts on the warmup or simply something personal. They understand the routines and expectations and benefit from a well structured class where they feel comfortable collaborating and sharing in small or whole group settings.
What can I learn from my students?
The child study helped me take an in-depth look at one of my students and realize just how important the family is for the overall success and learning of a child. In doing so, I also learned about my student's culture, family, values, goals, ideas about education, and more, which only strengthened our relationship further. When everyone is on board and invested - teachers, students, and families - everyone is better off for it and none more than the student.
Having strong, positive relationships with my students and their families alleviates some of the stress on my part because I know I am being supported and that my students are still being held accountable for what happens outside the classroom.
