Metadata is a term that refers to data about data. It is essentially information that describes other information. Metadata is used to provide context and understanding of data, and it helps to organize and find data more efficiently.

In digital resources, metadata can be used to describe the content of a file or document, such as the author, date created, and file type and is commonly used in the context of audio files such as MP3 files that are uploaded to podcast hosting platforms and contains information like the artist, date published and description of the content. This information can be used to help manage and organize digital resources more effectively. Metadata can also be used to help with data management, allowing for easier retrieval, management, and use of data.
