Agnihotra: The Holy Fire

Temple of Mother Earth

March 18 and 19, 2023

What is Agnihotra?

Agnihotra (agni means fire, hotra means healing) is an ancient fire ritual from India. Anyone from any background can perform Agnihotra and heal the atmosphere in their own home.

Agnihotra is a healing fire derived from Ayurvedic medicine. It is a daily process of purifying the atmosphere by lighting a specially prepared fire at sunrise and sunset.

It reduces stress, leads to greater clarity of thought, improves overall health, increases energy, and fills the mind with love. It is an excellent aid in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. It also feeds plant life and protects it from harmful radiation and pathogenic bacteria. It balances the functioning of Prana (life energy) and can be used to clean water.

Origins of Agnihotra

The Brahmans perform the Agnihotra ritual while reciting verses from the Rigveda, continuing a tradition that dates back to the Vedic era. It is a part of a pan-Indo-Iranian heritage, along with the closely related Iranian fire-worship ceremony known as the Zoroastrian Yasna Haptahiti ritual that is mentioned in the Old Avestan. The head of every Brahmin and Vaishya family was required to perform Agnihotra, the most basic public rite of the historical Vedic religion, twice daily. With Upanisads as a form of religious performance, it was already well-liked in India. The custom is now carried out in numerous locations throughout South Asia's Indian subcontinent, primarily in India but also in Nepal. An Agnihotri is a Brahmin who performs the Agnihotra ritual.

The Brhmaas outline various myths that explain how agnihotra came to be. In one, Prajapati, after creating Agni, sacrifices himself by offering his eye or sweat from his brow (which turned into ghee), giving birth to Surya. The word "svh" is a combination of the Hebrew words for "own" and "ha," and it first appeared when sacrifices were made (spoken). Another claims that the agnihotra is a shortened account of the 2,000-year sacrifice Prajapati and the other devas made in order to obtain divine power .

How is the Agnihotra performed?

  • The fire kund is placed on a stone to prevent its contact from the ground.

  • The performer needs to sit facing the east direction in the morning and west direction in the evening.

  • Now, the dried cow-dung cakes are placed at the bottom of the pyramid after applying a generous amount of ghee.

  • The cow-dung cakes are placed in such a way that air passes through them.

  • Then the fire is light up in the pyramid. Initially, camphor is used for igniting the fire.

  • A fan is used to kindle the fire. However, blowing from the mouth is prohibited.

  • Later on, the small portions of rice are mixed with ghee and kept in a separate plate.

  • At the exact time of the sunrise/ sunset, the small portion of rice is offered in the pyramid while chanting the mantra. The rice is offered in the flame saying ‘svaha’. Again a small portion is taken and offered in the flame to complete the offerings.

  • Thereafter, facing the lord sun, a humble obeisance is offered. The performer bows down to the fire as a sign of respect to all the 5 elements of nature.

  • The performer has to sit near the pyramid till the fire calms down and there is no smoke.

  • It is advisable to leave the ashes in the pyramid till next Agnihotra to enhance the potency of the ashes.

  • The ash is further removed in a natural container and used as protective ash, medicine, and fertilizer in the garden.

SECRET OF THE AGNIHOTRA MANTRAS

“SURRENDER TO THY WILL” The Yoga aphorism

'Ishwara pranidhanam' states:- "Once you become FULLY SURRENDERED to the WILL of the Almighty
POWER, then following of any other mode of religion is not necessary.

ALL spirituality is embodied in the “TOTAL Surrender"

Bhagavadgita expresses the same secret

'Sarva dharman parityajya mamekam Saranam vraja: It means be thou FULLY surrendered to HIS WILL.. ALL YOUR SINS WILL BE PARDONED.

HOLY BIBLE reiterates the same message. Jesus the Christ felt the danger of

death approaching. Jesus thought 'if by sacrificing my life the

message of Almighty shall spread over the planet then let it be so'.

Prophet Muhammed always strolled about with HIS head lowered.

Surrendered to the Will of Almighty.

HIS message was "Be surrendered'.

This is the SECRET of DAILY MORNING and EVENING AGNIHOTRA.

"Sooryaya Svaha, Agnaye Svaha, Prajapataye Svaha'

"Idam na mama" is the motto. The basis of life. The ultimate goal.

"Oh Almighty Father you are the Creator, the Light of the

Universe. All creation is yours. Nothing belongs to me!"

THIS IS THE SECRET OF THE AGNIHOTRA MANTRAS.

"Love thy neighbour as thyself".

Spread this message to each and every one that you come across.

Say "LET THE FATHER BLESS YOU".

THINKING of well-being of the WORLD, SPREADING the message of ETERNAL RELIGION is NOT an obligation ON others.

This is the HUMBLE SERVICE to ALMIGHTY - not an exercise of your EGO. SPREAD this DIVINE message of THE LORD over the planet. Say this, "Repent now. The Kingdom of HEAVEN is near at hand, nay, IN YOUR HANDS".
