About Us

Teaching Language and Literacy as an Act of Resistance (TLLAR) has been developed by a faculty team from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and is part of the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Program.

The primary source collections freely available at loc.gov enable teachers to provide a mirror for students to examine how our present is rooted in our past and a window to envision our future.

TLLAR professional development provides knowledge of the past, practical teaching techniques for immediate use, and new understandings and curiosities that inspire future learning.

About the Teaching with Primary Sources Partner Program

Since 2006, the Library has awarded Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) grants to build a nationwide network of organizations that deliver educational programming, and create teaching materials and tools based on the Library’s digitized primary sources and other online resources. Each year members of this network, called the TPS Consortium, support tens of thousands of learners to build knowledge, engagement and critical thinking skills with items from the Library’s collections.
