Why fish?

I chose fish as the theme for agile learning because fish exemplify many of the characteristics of what it means to be agile. Fish:

• rapidly adjust to accommodate their environment.
• often operate in groups or schools. I couldn't resist the pun potential! :)
• work as a team to effectively gain immediate results; i.e. working quickly to evade a shark or predator.
• act mindfully, always observing their surroundings or else becoming someone else's dinner.
• fail sometimes, but if they survive, they learn from it and/or mutate and evolve. Not to anthropomorphize too much, but in this sense, fish reflect-- to some degree, in order to adapt and survive.
• deal with impediments, like environmental changes and predators.
• innovate. I know this is yet another stretch, but think of the fish that live in the deep, dark abyss: the anglerfish. It and other bio-luminescent fish evolved over many years to gain this adaption. Even more impressive is the fact that most bio-luminescence relies on symbiotic relationships with bacteria, which circles back once again to agile teams!
• iterate. Fish repeat procedures, such as acquiring food or attracting a mate, presumably to get better at it each time. This parallels iterative development of products or projects, and to some extent an inherent growth mindset although that would be difficult to prove given that fish don't communicate the same way humans do.
