Members are expected to show up each week for their selected time slot. Communicate with APL Officers and your teacher if you are unable to make it. This semester, volunteers will be asked to get teacher signatures to keep everyone accountable with school visits.
Dress Code: jeans and an APL t-shirt (Texas A&M shirts are also acceptable)
For each visit you must check into the front office as a visitor, where you will be asked to exchange your state-issued ID for a visitor badge.
Visit the CSISD Calendar to figure out when CSISD has student holidays. Notice these sometimes differ from Texas A&M. You can also check Southwood Valley's Calendar.
Transportation: Unfortunately, the closest Aggie Spirit bus stop is approximately 0.7 miles away from the elementary school. If you are unable to carpool with other members (which we strongly recommend), you may take bus 34 Fish Camp to the stop "Welsh @ Deacon" to get as close to the school as possible.
Purpose: The purpose of volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club of the Brazos Valley is to help kids with their reading comprehension, literacy, vocab, grammar, and more. We strive to give our kids the confidence to read both in and out of the classroom as well as give them a love and passion for it.
Curriculum: We work with kids from 6 years old to 6th grade in the BGC library. In order to engage them all with reading, we develop fun games and activities. Members are encouraged to help with curriculum development to stay more involved! We also usually have a pizza party at the end of the semester to reward the kids for attendance.
When And Where: Every Friday between 3:30-5:30 we have opportunities to volunteer. The address is 1910 Beck St, Bryan, TX 77803.
