We naturally regard our self and other humans as agents, which facilitates our social interactions. Understanding agency in others and our own minds is a crucial cognitive skill in modern human society. The study of the agency is not only important in scientific studies of the human mind: whether we can build artificial agency in the non-biological system is an important question in the coming era in which robots and AI will become embedded in our society.
Despite of the importance of understanding agency, the term, 'agency' are used in a diverted way in the different areas of research. In this workshop, we aim to bridge the gap between the two major field of agency; the sense of agency in psychology and agency in more generally used in the field of robotics, AI, and the artificial life. We hope this workshop will facilitate collaborations among researchers from the different field and potentially initiate new interdisciplinary research projects on agency in future.
