Afternoon Information
In the afternoon, the group classrooms are in two locations -- some in the Engineering Building (and one next door in Wagar) and some in the Education Building, which are about a 10 minute walk from each other.
The Lory Student Center is essentially the midpoint between the Education and Engineering buildings and it has a coffee shop (Sweet Sinsations), so that may be a natural point to converge for the afternoon break. The Library, on the same plaza, also has a coffee shop, in case it is useful to split the line into two. There is a third coffee shop in the Behavioral Science Building right opposite to the Education Building, and there is Mugs which is a short walk from the Engineering Building. So it should be possible for all participants to caffeinate in the alloted 30 minute break!
Warning: The weather on Thursday afternoon is predicted to stay quite hot. Whatever you decide to do, make sure to take precautions to protect yourself from the heat and bring plenty of water with you.
If you are looking to arrange a hike for yourself, two popular ones nearby are Horsetooth Rock (2.5 miles each way) and Arthur's Rock (1.8 miles each way). Both of them require a 20 minute car ride to get there. You may want to talk to other participants / locals who have cars for transportation. Also: here's an unofficial whatsapp group (from Ignacio Rojas) to help coordinate https://chat.whatsapp.com/IplQIkZOcZKAVV4OHA3tsb?mode=ac_t
We've also arranged for two groups to take walks around town and end up at local brewerys.
Group 1 (longer walk): We will start in front of the CSU Math Department (the Louis R. Weber Building) at 3:30pm and head towards the Poudre River Trail. After an out and back walk on the trail, we'll eventually end up at the New Belgium Brewing Company. How far we go will depend on how we feel as a group (and how hot it is), but the hope is to walk around 6 miles in total.
Group 2 (shorter walk): We will depart from the Nutrien Agricultural Sciences building (north side, on University Avenue) at 4pm. It is a short one hour walk, through City Park. The short hike will aim at reaching the Stodgy Brewing Company (https://stodgybrewing.com/).
Pick-up Soccer (organized by Sridhar Venkatesh) -- Casual soccer (football) games in the evenings during the conference, as a way for everyone to unwind and have fun! Please fill out this short form (https://forms.gle/nFo1eRkmuA4dbY4K8) as soon as you can. The plan is to play on whichever evenings we have enough people available, coordinating through either a mailing list or a Whatsapp group/discord server.
