Afterall Photo lines up your "after" photo with your "before". When you go back to photograph your progress, the app draws the earlier photo onto the live camera as a see-through ghost, so you can stand in the same spot and match the shot.
Get it on the App Store (iPhone): https://apps.apple.com/app/id6814640472
Getting started
1. Tap + to start a project — one for each thing you're tracking.
2. Take the "before" photo, or import one you already have.
3. When you come back, open the project and tap Take Next Photo. Your earlier photo appears over the live view, at the zoom it was taken at; move until it lines up, and shoot.
4. Use the slider to fade the ghost once you are close.
5. Tap Show Menu, then GIF, Video, Reveal, Side by Side or PDF Report.
Common questions
The ghost overlay does not appear.
It shows from the second photo onward — there is nothing to line up against until a project has its first photo.
Can I choose which photo the ghost shows?
Yes. Press and hold any photo in the project, or tap its ⋯ button, and choose "Set as Reference Photo". Useful when you want every shot lined up against the very first one.
Can I take selfies?
Yes. Tap the camera-flip button at the top left of the camera. The ghost is mirrored along with the view, so your face lines up with your earlier photo, and the saved photo comes out the right way round. When the reference photo is a selfie, the camera opens on the front camera by itself.
My "before" was taken at 0.5×. Can I match it?
Yes. The camera opens at the zoom of the reference photo — including photos imported from the Camera app — and the 0.5, 1, 2 buttons next to the shutter switch lenses while you line up. Photos imported before version 1.1 don't carry their zoom; for those, tap 0.5 once.
Is there a self-timer?
Yes. Tap the timer next to the shutter to switch between Off, 3 seconds and 10 seconds, or press and slide along it to pick one directly. Each project remembers its own setting. A Bluetooth remote or the volume button starts the countdown too; press again, or tap the screen, to cancel. With the back camera the flash blinks through the countdown, faster in the last two seconds, so you know when the photo is coming even when you can't see the screen.
What is the tilt guide?
An Afterall Pro feature that helps you hold the phone exactly as you did for the reference photo. A line across the middle shows the horizon, and a small scale at the side shows how far up or down you are pointing. When both match your earlier photo they turn yellow and you feel a short tap. It works from the next photo you take in version 1.1 or later: older photos don't know how the phone was held.
Why can I only add 2 photos?
The free version holds 2 photos per project; Afterall Pro raises it to 10. Afterall Photo is for showing a before and an after, not for building long sequences, so the cap is deliberate. When a Pro project reaches 10, delete a photo to add another.
I bought Pro and it is not showing.
Open any Pro feature and tap "Restore Purchase" on the sheet that appears. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, so make sure you are signed in with the one you bought it on.
How do I move my projects to a new phone?
Projects → Options → Back Up Projects writes a single file you can save to Files, iCloud Drive or anywhere else. On the new phone, use Options → Restore from Backup.
Where are my photos stored?
On your device, inside the app. Afterall Photo has no accounts and no server, and nothing is uploaded. Photos taken in the app do not go to your camera roll unless you save or export them.
Can I get the original photo out of the app?
Yes, with Afterall Pro. Press and hold a photo in a project, or tap its ⋯ button, and choose "Save to Photos" — that writes the original to your photo library at full quality, with no watermark.
