The personal information that you are asked to provide, and the reasons why you are asked to provide it, will be made clear to you at the point we ask you to provide your personal information. For example, if you choose to “Join the Community”, we may ask for your contact information, including items such as email address, role (e.g. staff, student, practitioner) and type of device used to access the site (for usability information).
If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you such as your name, email address, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.
We use the information we collect in various ways, including to:
Call for contributions of other stories or resources for the website
Communicate with you if you have chosen to share a story or resource

Improve our website
ADTS follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this as a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information collected by log files includes Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, and referring/exit pages. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analysing trends, administering the site, tracking usage of the website, and gathering geographic information.
Like any other website, ADTS uses cookies. These cookies are used to store information, including visitors’ preferences and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimise the users’ experience by customising our web page content based on visitors’ browser type and/or other information.

The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request that we complete the information you believe is incomplete.

The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data under certain conditions.

Protection of Personal Information Act
We comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA or POPI Act), which is South Africa’s comprehensive data privacy law, effective from 1 July 2021. This entitles every user of the ADTS website to:
Transparency and Notification: Users have the right to be notified when their personal information is being collected and to know why it is being processed.
Access to Data: Users can request to know what personal information a website holds about them.
Correction or Deletion: Users can request the correction, destruction, or deletion of personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, out of date, incomplete, or was obtained unlawfully.
Objection and Consent Withdrawal: Users can object to or withdraw consent for the processing of their personal information at any time.
Protection against Unsolicited Communications: Users have rights regarding unsolicited electronic communications (spam) and automated decision-making.
Legal Recourse: Users have the right to submit complaints to the Information Regulator regarding any interference with their personal information.
