7 Days Chimpanzee and Gorilla Safari in Rwanda

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali International airport, meet and greet with an Image Travel Limited representative before transferring to your Kigali City hotel. We’ll assist you with checking in at the city hotel, then brief you on pick up time for the next day. Rest for the night. Overnight and meals at Onomo Hotel.

Day 2: Depart To Nyungwe Forest National Park

Depart to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, we’ll make stops at places of interest including local markets, and the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. In Butare, visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum. We’ll have lunch after our stops. We’ll drive past green fields of tea scattered across the hillsides along with small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest. [Approximate driving time: 5 hours] Overnight and dinner at Emeraude Kivu Resort.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking

Go chimp tracking in the forest to see a variety of wildlife and some of the three hundred bird species found here, which include the Rwenzori turaco and black and white casqued hornbill. Have lunch after chimp tracking, and return late in the afternoon. Overnight and dinner at Emeraude Kivu Resort.

Day 4: Nyungwe Forest to Parc National des Volcanoes

Return to Kigali or travel via Gisenyi to Ruhengeri. Drive north to Kinigi via Ruhengeri. On the way, we’ll make a couple stops at places of interest. Enjoy the rolling hills that Rwanda is well known for. [Approximate driving time: 6 hours] Overnight and dinner at Le Bambou Lodge.

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking

Transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters to track gorillas in Parc National des Volcanoes. Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills, and swamps can be tough, arduous, and tiring, and can sometimes take up to 8 hours in the forest. But coming face to face with the great primates is well worth the effort. Overnight and dinner at Le Bambou Lodge.

Day 6: Golden Monkey

Today we’ll track the golden monkeys. Alternatively for those who are not up to it, you can simply relax at the camp. Return to Kigali afterward. Optional: go on a Kigali city tour visit to the Rwanda Genocide memorial park at extra cost. Overnight and meals at Onomo Hotel.

Day 7: Return and Departure

Have breakfast and relax at the hotel, and if time permits we’ll take a walk to the beautiful city of Kigali where you can buy cultural traditional crafts. Return to the hotel. Later on, we’ll drop you off at the International Airport for your departure back home.
