Early Anthologies of African Folktales for Young Readers
lauragibbs.net/newcastle

This is a website of resources for Laura Gibbs's presentation, "A Spectrum of Africanness in Early 20th-Century Anthologies of African Folktales for Young Readers," at the International Children's Literature Symposium to be held in Newcastle, England in July 2023. You will find my conference paper below.

In addition, this site contains a Library of Books featuring early anthologies of African folktales for young readers, all of which are in the public domain. You can browse those books and/or you can explore the OER (open educational resources) I have created using materials; you will find all 26 packets listed here: OER Index.

I have also prepared a collection of Story PDFs which you can download individually to recombine into your own PDF anthology. To help you get started on a project like that, here are some Tips on Working with Public Domain Materials.

I am eager for suggestions and feedback! You can find me online at Twitter (@OnlineCrsLady) or email me at laurakgibbs@gmail.com. You can find out more about my work at LauraGibbs.net.

Below you will find my conference paper, along with an audio recording.
