A passenger can use AfriBus without an account and without giving any personal information. We collect the minimum needed to run the service.
2. Passengers without an account
Your phone's location is used on the device only, to sort the nearest stops and place you on the map. It is neither sent nor stored on our servers. Scanning a stop's QR code records nothing about you.
3. Passengers with an account
If you sign in with Google or with an email, we keep: your name, email address, your Google profile picture if you have one, and the account creation date. This is used to recognise you and, later, to link your tickets to your account.
A driver who joins with their station code gives us only their name, phone number and line. No identity document is asked for in that case. A driver going through the approval request also provides a photo and a photo of an identity document. These documents are used only to verify who is sharing a position. They are visible only to the AfriBus administrator and are never published or sold. The station chief sees only the name and number of the drivers on their own lines. While on service, the vehicle's GPS position is sent about every 20 seconds; it is public inside the app, because that is what produces the waiting times. It is deleted as soon as the service ends.
If you buy a ticket, we keep: the ticket, the line, the amount, the date and the payment reference. The payment itself is handled by Paystack: we never see or store your full Mobile Money number or card number.
Data is hosted on Google Firebase (Google Cloud). The app also uses Google Maps to display the map, and Paystack for payments. Each of these services has its own privacy policy.
7. Advertising and resale
We do not sell any data. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
GPS positions are deleted at the end of a service. ID documents are kept while the driver account is active, then deleted on request. Ticket data is kept for accounting.
You may ask to see, correct or delete your data, and to delete your account, by writing to afribus.support@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days.
The app is not intended for children under 13.
