When I started college in 2011, my intention was to get my Pre-Med Biology degree and become a clinical oncologist. As I worked through my courses, I came to realize that my calling was not inside a research hospital treating cancer patients but instead was inside a classroom inspiring the next generation of people who would. My friends and family always joked that I would eventually find a way to be a doctor and I plan to prove them right! After taking a couple of years off to focus on my work growing our chemistry program at Tustin High, I plan to enroll in the CSUF EDD program in Educational Leadership.
Two of my colleagues and I started a chemistry curriculum writing group we called the Science Matters Project. We have been developing NGSS phenomena based chemistry curriculum with the intention to distribute it to teachers everywhere! We are currently working on putting together our resources into a cohesive and easy to access website. Additionally, we look forward to being able to continue to partner with school districts to deliver PD to science teachers about how to make the jump to teaching the NGSS using relevant and contextualized phenomena!
I am currently teaching CP and Honors Chemistry at Tustin High and I love my job. I look forward to being able to take over our AP Biology program soon and have the opportunity to revamp the student experience. While I cannot see myself leaving the classroom anytime soon, I would love to be able to explore working with other teachers as a science TOSA to integrate technology into science best teaching practices and be able to implement it district wide. I also would love the opportunity to work as a technology coordinator for the district. I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of evaluating different technologies throughout this program. I think it would be a great experience to be able to be involved in the decision making process of providing technology resources to teachers.
