Frequently asked questions
The app is downloading the catalogue. Do I need internet?
The first time you open AFOL Shelf, it downloads the set catalogue (every set's number, name, year, theme and picture) from Rebrickable. After that it works offline, and it refreshes the catalogue automatically about once a month. You can also refresh it any time in Settings.
The scanner isn't finding my set.
Hold the box steady in good light, with the set number on the front or side of the box clearly in view. You can also scan the barcode, or search by set number or name. Once you confirm a set from its barcode, the app remembers that barcode for next time.
Why don't I see a retail price?
Original retail prices come from Brickset and need a free Brickset API key. You can request one at brickset.com and enter it in Settings. Without a key you can type in the retail price yourself on the set's page. Older and promotional sets often have no retail price; you can mark those as "Promotional set" on the set's page.
What is AFOL Cloud?
AFOL Cloud lets collectors anonymously share what their sets are worth. On any set, tap AFOL Cloud to see other users' values, the middle value and the range. Values that look far off are left out automatically, and you can tap any value to leave it out or count it. Sharing your own values can be turned off in Settings, where you can also remove values you've shared.
How do I add the current value of a set?
On the set's page, tap BrickEconomy or BrickLink to check recent prices. Press and hold the price, copy it, close the page and tap Paste, or type the value in. Updating values every month or so builds up a graph of how your set's value changes. Sets with an orange dot in My Collection have a value that's over a month old.
Can I import my existing collection list?
Yes. In My Collection, tap the import button and choose a PDF, Excel (.xlsx), CSV or text file. The app finds the set numbers and quantities, and shows you everything to check before anything is added. For Apple Numbers or Google Sheets, export as Excel, CSV or PDF first.
Can I export my collection?
Yes. Most lists have an export button that creates a PDF or Excel spreadsheet, with or without prices, ready to share, print or email.
Is my data backed up?
Your collection is stored on your iPhone and is included in your normal iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup). It isn't stored on any AFOL Shelf server. Deleting the app deletes its data, so make sure you have a backup or an export first.
Does the app have ads or subscriptions?
No ads, no subscriptions, no tracking.
